Too many books, too little time? How to simplify midyear without guilt — and recognize when less really is more for your crew.
Curriculum overload usually comes from good intentions: you wanted rich literature, strong math, hands-on science, foreign language, music, and art. The ship can only carry so much sail before it heels dangerously.
Audit what you actually use versus what you planned to use. If science kits sit unopened while you only do reading, you have data — not moral failure.
Combine subjects where possible: history through read-alouds, geography through cooking, writing through narrations about science. Integration reduces parallel workloads.
Adopt a "finish one, add one" rule. No new purchases until something current is complete or officially retired. This prevents midyear pile-ons.
Talk to your kids. They often know which lessons feel pointless. Their boredom is navigation data.
